Before making your dog’s clothes

It is very common to see small breed dogs with their beautiful clothes, since they are usually the coldest ones, but you can also warm your pet if it is a large dog.  But you can also make both winter and summer clothes, in this case we will use lighter fabrics.

Before you start you should take into account some things, such as the measurements, the materials you are going to use, etc. You can use the family clothes that they no longer use such  as sweatshirts, t-shirts, socks … everything you can think of can help.

The patterns

It is very important to know your dog’s measurements. So with a tape measure you have to measure from the nape to the rump, that will be the length of the pattern. The second measurement will be from the center of the spine downwards, on the side of the dog that reaches the lower abdomen. You have to multiply this measurement by two, since it assumes the width of the pattern.

The next measurement must be done through the lower abdomen, this measurement is important, since in this part we will put the elastic or an adhesive band to adjust the clothes to your body.

Now you need a pattern paper and trace your dog’s measurements with a ruler. Depending on the size of your pet, you should divide the paper into two or three parts, leaving 1.5 cm around each division of the paper, which will be the hem.

Cut out each part of the paper of the pattern and it only remains to capture it on the fabric that you are going to use. This would be the base pattern with the measurements of your dog, from here on, all that remains is your imagination and add all kinds of ornaments, such as ruffles, sequins, etc.

Dog clothes with a sweatshirt

The most common thing we can have at home is possibly a sweatshirt, so we are going to use it so that our dog is warm. The way to make it is as follows:

You can make a pattern made by yourself, but if you don’t dare, you can wear your own sweatshirt and adjust it to your dog’s body.

If you want to make the sweatshirt with the measurements of your little friend, it will be enough to wear the centimeters measured by the neck and belly, then you draw two circles with a glass, which will be to remove his front legs. Then you can cover these holes with the sleeves of a wool sweater, in this way the garment will be even warmer.

A raincoat for your dog

How many times have you had to take your dog out in the rain to relieve himself and when you return home he is soaked? Well, now we are going to show you how to make a raincoat for your dog:

The material you can use is a sturdy plastic garbage bag or an old raincoat from someone in the family.

Cut the plastic measuring that it covers the body of the dog and two holes are made for the legs. In the end it will be cut into a triangle shape for the tail. If you have a belt you can use it to adjust the raincoat to your dog. Although you can also use velcro or adhesive tape for fabrics.

A tutu for your dog

Lay the tulle on a table and cut several strips of about 15 cm each, but it will depend on the size of your dog. Measure an elastic around your dog so you know where to cut it and sew the ends together.
