Tribute To The Abandoned Dogs Of Mexico

Tribute to the abandoned dogs of Mexico

More and more cities are paying tribute to abandoned dogs. That is the case, for example, of Mexico City or Barcelona in Spain. Today we want to tell you about another Mexican city, Guadalajara, which already has a monument to abandoned dogs.

We will tell you a little more about this initiative and how the idea came about.

The monument to the abandoned dogs of Guadalajara

This initiative arose out of an association called “Give us a leg”. The purpose was to promote the care of dogs that live on the streets.

Many animals on the streets interact with each other and with that they come to have puppies that over time also live on the street and will become stray dogs. There are two ways to avoid this:

  • Sterilization
  • Adoption

When a person wants to adopt a dog, they usually look for one that likes its physique. As a general rule, these are usually those of race. However, any dog can give us affection and the warmth that we look for in a companion animal. But this does not seem like a very common knowledge to everyone.

To start raising awareness, the Animal Protection Unit was inaugurated. Its purpose is to provide specialized help for the care of the animal, as well as to promote respect for its rights.

Many have wondered why make a monument to an abandoned dog. The director of the project, Sandra Origel, explains that “for us they are our four-legged warriors who overcome hunger, cold, mistreatment and the indifference of humans”.

When the monument was unveiled, an event that took place in Parque Italia, 150 free sterilization surgeries were given away.

Other tributes to animals

The case of Guadalajara is not the only one. There have been many statues and other monuments made to stray animals. We remind you of some:

  • Hachicko. Although in principle it was not a stray dog, but a companion animal that went with its owner every day to the station. When he died, Hachicko lived on the street and spent the day in front of the station from which his owner did not leave.
  • The cat of Istanbul. They say that Istanbul is the city of cats, and this was demonstrated when they made a statue in tribute to a stray cat that the whole city remembered. A cat that lived all her life on the streets of the city. In addition, she chose strange and funny poses at the same time that everyone remembered her for. His statue is on a bench in one of his favorite postures.
  • The Barcelona Abandoned Animal Show. This is an initiative that seeks to make people aware of the harm caused by abandonment of animals. Every year they pay tribute to an animal that has lost its life because of being left to its own devices.
  • Moaña in Galicia. This town made a sculpture in honor of abandoned dogs. Although in this case it is the Cantabrian dogs as well as Lobi, a dog that spent his whole life with his deceased owner.
  • Hunting dogs. In this case, it was a photographer who, through a report, honored the hunting dogs that abandon once their owners believe that they are no longer useful. Sad but true.

We are happy that there are people who are aware that abandonment is an evil that must be eradicated. That animals are living beings dependent on us and that they cannot be left to their own devices.

Also do your bit by helping associations that fight against this evil or by adopting one of these animals. You will never regret.
