As responsible owners, we want our pets to be well all the time. But sometimes we no longer know what else to do to remove fleas or ticks. Have you tried antiparasitic sprays for dogs? In this article we will tell you more about them.

Antiparasitic spray : what to know

Among the methods to eliminate fleas or ticks, or to prevent mosquitoes and flies from attacking our pets, we find many options. The best known are the pipette, the flea collar and the antiparasitic tablets. But we also have one more alternative: those known as  antiparasitic spray .

It is undoubtedly a more than practical and useful tool to combat all kinds of parasites and insects, especially the most common ones. This product is usually used by those dog owners who prefer something practical, even much more than pipettes.

For example,  there are several dogs that do not allow their owners to approach with something similar to a needle – such as the aforementioned pipette –  or that vomit the antiparasitic pill. We can also name cases of pets that do not tolerate the collar, since it generates an allergic reaction in the neck.

This method has immediate results and, unlike worming tablets, the sprays can eliminate parasites or insects at the time. They also act as a repellent if we go to the field or are in the garden during the summer!

The bad news is that they do not have a long-term preventive effect, which means that it should be applied more often than the pipette, which lasts for about a month.

How are deworming sprays used  ?

The mode of use is more than simple.  Simply spray the spray on the dog’s hair and skin. It is also essential to pay attention to the indications on the package or container box, since we must prevent the product from making contact with the animal’s eyes, nose, mouth or ears. It also cannot be placed over a wound, scar, or bruise.

The  antiparasitic sprays are very simple to use, the application is fast and it is also a highly effective method. We can find different presentations and sizes, some with a spray and others as a  spray similar to the mosquito repellants that we use for ourselves.

Surely you wonder how it is composed, and that will depend on the particular manufacturers, although there are common components between all brands. If you have any questions about what it contains, it is best to consult your vet. The professional will know how to tell you if they have any contraindications for your particular dog.

Flea and tick spray for dogs

The  sprays antiparasitic work more than well against flies and mosquitoes because they are of immediate effect. However, they are not always useful for treating fleas and ticks (it all depends on the composition of the product). Therefore, they are not advised as a long-term treatment, unless otherwise directed by the vet.

They can be very useful when we go on vacation to a rural place, or if we take our dog for a walk and go to a park or outdoor place with a lot of grass and plants where parasites can ‘hide’.

One of the main advantages of  antiparasitic sprays is that they can be used on puppies under three months, something that does not happen with pipettes, collars or pills. Likewise, you should pay attention to what is indicated in the leaflet to know if it is suitable for your pet.

Of course, you must bear in mind that it does not protect animals against leishmaniasis and the  sprays may have less effects than the other methods indicated above.

Finally, we advise you to use  antiparasitic sprays as a complement to pipettes or collars and to spray all those places that your dog frequents : bed, carpet, cushions, sofa, kennel, blankets … and even edges and baseboards where fleas can stay. without us seeing them. When you are not using it, keep it in a safe place as it is toxic.
