The Benefits Of Honey For Dogs

The benefits of honey for dogs

We have repeatedly heard the phrase: “Don’t give sugar to the dog that goes blind!” The truth is that this is a myth and an old legend that lacks reality and foundation.

A dog will go blind if he is prone to diabetes, as is the case with any human suffering from the disease. Continuing with this way of thinking can make you deny your pet a very beneficial element for his health: honey.

We already know that honey has many beneficial properties for humans. We can use it for the throat, to activate defenses, for the skin, for the hair, for burns, improves memory and a host of etceteras.

But what is not so well known is that this ingredient is also highly beneficial for our most faithful friends: dogs.

Honey

Honey is a product resulting from the pollination of bees. Depending on its color, light or dark, this will be its flavor, softer or stronger. Also according to its intensity of flavor and its color, it will indicate that it contains more antioxidants and more nutrients. The pH of honey is very low, which facilitates the paralysis of the growth of bacteria.

Honey also contains different nutrients that support the immune system, as well as general health. It provides extra energy and its caloric intake is relatively low.

How will honey help your dog?

dogs never die

First, we would like to remind you that honey is an ingredient that contains glucose and fructose,  so if your dog is diabetic, it is best to consult a veteran before giving him doses of this golden delicacy.

On the other hand, as we explained before, it provides extra energy, so if your dog is rather sedentary and his amount of exercise is very low, or even zero, it will be better to limit the consumption of honey to a minimum.

Let’s see what are some benefits:

  • Nutrient such as vitamin A, B, C, D, E and K. Vitamins play a very important role in your dog’s body, helping him to regenerate himself.

On the other hand, they favor the functions of reproduction, ocular, epidermal and metabolic, among others.

  • Contribution of antioxidants. During the normal functioning of cells, they generate harmful molecules known as radicals, which aim to destroy cells.

Antioxidants prevent this attack and neutralize radicals.

  • Contribution of minerals. These will help your dog to be healthy, both internally and externally.
  • Helps with allergies. Honey contains a tiny amount of pollen. If you give your dog honey daily, the immune system will gradually accept the pollen and will not overreact when spring arrives.
  • Overcome digestive problems. Due to its low acidity, honey is able to prevent the growth of many bacteria, including digestive ones. In addition, honey produces an enzyme that contains hydrogen peroxide, which is also antibacterial.
  • Burns and wounds. For the reasons discussed in the previous point, honey is an exceptional component in this problem.

How to use it

If your dog is healthy, does not suffer from diabetes and is also an athlete, our suggestion is that you use honey as a preventive before future illnesses. You can give two small teaspoons twice a day.

Do this especially if your dog suffers from any kind of allergy.

You can also give your dog two teaspoons of honey if he is suffering from gastroenteritis or gastritis. Its splendid properties will slow down the growth of bacteria.

Before wounds, put the honey on them and do not cover it. Leave on for at least twenty minutes.

Before burns, it is better to cut the hair around the burn, wash the area well with vinegar, apply the honey every ten minutes until the pain subsides and, finally, put a bandage on it.

As you can see, honey is an ingredient that is also beneficial for your dog, so don’t hesitate, use it! It will help your dog to be a healthy and strong animal.
